My Valentine's Day Survival Guide

Valentine's Day! Love it or hate it – it's here again. I used to dread it – in fact it was my least favourite day of the year.

To get through the dull London weather and soothe my bruised single ego, I would organise a night out with friends. Singles and couples, so the singletons didn't feel like outcasts, and the smug marrieds didn't have to do yet another daggy dinner for two.

We would go bowling or wine tasting or have a movie night in with popcorn. Viva romance and fun, with or without a partner!

Here are my top Valentines Day Dos for singles and smug marrieds:

Ten-pin Bowling at All Star Lanes (www.allstarlanes.co.uk)

Very glam. Get dressed up for this. Private bowling, cocktails and canapés.

Cocktail Lessons (www.jackscs.co.uk)

Celebrate Valentine's Day in mixed – or should that be mixologist – company learning how to whip up some sexy cocktail concoctions!

Romance your senses at a Vinopolis wine tasting course, master class or their very special Viva Valentine Flamenco Wine Tour.

Valentines Night Safari (www.nhmshop.co.uk)

Choose the path of pleasure – or the route to pain – touring the Natural History Museum and discover the ingredients to a perfect love potion or exactly which plants not to garnish an ex-lover's meal with ;-).

Casablanca at Firmdale's Charlotte Street Hotel (www.firmdale.com)

Immerse yourself in old-skool romance with Firmdale's Weekend Film Club Valentine's Day screening of Casablanca. A three-course meal plus champagne and canapés. Here's looking at you kid!

Wishing everyone a very happy Valentine's Day
