Oscars 2011: Red Carpet Predictions

We've been through the Golden Globes, the SAGs and the BAFTAs, but they were just a warm-up for the biggest red carpet event of the year: the 2011 Academy Awards, aka the Oscars.

We can't wait to see what the nominees and stars will be sporting on the red carpet, so we thought we'd have a little fun and play stylist. Hey, we might not get to be on the red carpet Sunday night, but we can certainly make sure the celebs are looking their best (in our heads at least)...

The statuesque Nicole Kidman has worn every designer from Prada to L'Wren Scott to Dolce & Gabbana to Jean-Paul Gaultier, whose couture creation she dazzled in at the 2011 Grammys (left). The Best Actress nominee, for her role in Rabbit Hole, could wear pretty much anything and look amazing...

We think the star would look incredible in this Stephane Rolland couture gown from the designer's latest collection. Cheryl Cole is a fan of his designs and while she and Kidman might share different tastes and body shapes, this dress would be a red carpet hit on the flame-haired star.

Adams has been making more daring choices on the red carpet lately - to great effect. She shimmered in this peach Elie Saab creation at the BAFTAs, and we think she should keep up this fashion-forward evolution.

Adams would look divine in this beaded Donna Karan number, which is sexy but not over-the-top. The delicate pale tulle would look striking against Adams' skintone and colouring, and it would be nice to see the actress in a more delicate, romantic dress.

As the co-host of this year's Academy Awards, Anne Hathaway is probably going to be wearing more than one drool-worthy red carpet look (lucky girl!). After she stole the show in this Armani Prive creation at the Golden Globes earlier this year, we have to hope that at least one of her dresses on the big night is...

... by Armani. When you've hit upon something good, why mess with it? Anne would look gorgeous in this brilliant blue jewel-toned gown with sparkly pailettes - her frame and colouring is just perfect for it. The space-oddity, UFO-style hat is probably best kept on the catwalk, though.

The Best Actress nominee has gone for simple yet elegant looks in neutral colours on the red carpet, like this white embellished Marchesa gown that she wore for the BAFTAs. We'd like to see her try something a bit more dramatic on Oscar night.

Oscar de la Renta is American couture at its best. This black dress is demure enough for Bening but has the star power that she commands. It's divine. And it wouldn't be Oscar night without Oscar, would it?

This is Portman's big year on the red carpet, and not just because the Black Swan star is a shoe-in for the Best Actress gong. All eyes are also on the starlet's burgeoning bump as she shows how to do maternity chic in looks from Azzaro, Viktor & Rolf and Michael Kors (left).

Since she's the new face of Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, we think Natalie should shine in one of Galliano's extraordinary creations for Dior Couture. The dress at left is not only exquisite but seems like it would be very cosy for a baby bump (and it wouldn't even need to be taken out!)
