Catwalk Review: Giambattista Valli A/W 2011/12

DESIGNER: Giambattista Valli

INSPIRATION: Sculpted restrained elegance.

TOP LOOKS: Sculpted sleeveless sheath dresses created in bonded wool or tweed were topped off with caplets, while huge botanical prints splayed across tunics and dresses. The final looks saw acres of tulle used to create bodiced strapless gowns that were perfect for the modern Cinderella.

WHO WAS THERE: Valli's moneyed clientele was out in force, including Lee Radziwill (Jackie Onassis' sister) and several members of the Missoni clan.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: With its high round necklines and stiffened round shoulders, Valli's collection echoed many of the elements seen at the Stella McCartney show earlier today. But Valli incorporated these elements in his own inimitable style and for his own inimitable client. This resulted in something modern, daring and just a little bit jet set.
