The lowdown: For blog of the week we usually pick out long running blogs you can return to month after month. This week we're changing things up slightly to let you know about Authors for Japan. Put together by Keris Stainton in just 48 hours, Authors for Japan is a blog-based literary auction where all the proceeds will go towards helping those devastated by the earthquake in Japan. Authors taking part include Adele Parks, Katie Fforde, Jill Mansell, Sam Baker, and Andrew Crofts to name but a few.

How it works: Once you've picked the lot you want to bid on simply click the 'Post a Comment' link at the bottom of the item's blog post. All bids are made through the comments so scroll down and take note of the highest bid then write your email address (only visible to the site owners) and your own bid in the 'Leave a Reply' box. All bids must be in UK pounds and don't forget to check back regularly to see how you're doing!

The winning bidder will donate the amount of their final bid (or more if they're feeling generous) directly to the British Red Cross. Items will be after sent upon proof of payment.

Bidding closes at 8pm on 20 March (Sunday). Check the detailed browsing and bidding instructions on the site for more information.

What are you waiting for? With 170 lots to choose from we're sure something will catch your eye!

You can also donate directly to the British Red Cross's Japan Tsunami Appeal here.
