Catwalk Review: Burberry Prorsum A/W 2011/12

DESIGNER: Christopher Bailey for Burberry

INSPIRATION: Bailey's native Yorkshire; the show began again a backdrop of fierce swirling snow, and ended with an indoor snowstorm, as PVC-caped models did their final walk up the runway.

TOP LOOKS: Simply put this was about easy, effortless chic when the elements are at their worst. The star of the show was the duffle coat, with juicy primary bright versions strutting on the catwalk, teamed with floor-skimming flares. The Burberry check was scaled up for military-style toggled capes.

ACCESSORIES: Chunky no-nonsense black wedge boots and a fur flat cap completed the look.

WHO WAS THERE:Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth, Daisy Lowe, Jaime Hince (aka Mr Moss), Alison Mosshart, Misty Miller, Anna Wintour and Samantha Cameron.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: As the Brit heritage label continues its bid for global domination from London Fashion Week, the 1,000 seat tent in Kensington Gardens, which was streamed live to 150 countries, as well as a (world first) public showing on a 32 metre digital screen in Piccadilly Circus, certainly suggested that they are on track. And the clothes themselves? When you boil it down, Burberry did what it's always done; timeless, classic, beautifully cut pieces - but Bailey executes them in a way that creates covetable "it" items. And that ladies and gentleman, is how you take over the fashion world.
