High street stalwart Marks & Spencer has announced a new partnership with Conran & Company to design, under the guidance of Sir Terence Conran, a contemporary Home collection available only at M&S from September 2011.

The move is part of M&S's plan to segment its Home department into 'lifestyle categories': Classic, Contemporary and Design. The new Conran Exclusive Design collection will form the basis of the Contemporary offering and will include a wide range of home products incorporating furniture, bedding, lighting and kitchenware.

Marc Bolland, M&S's chief executive said: "I'm very proud to announce our exciting new collaboration with Britain's most influential designer, Sir Terence Conran. I've long admired the work of Sir Terence - his name is synonymous with exquisite modern design and he was the natural choice of partner to help us create our Contemporary homeware range."

Sir Terence added: "To work with M&S on this project is the opportunity of a lifetime. It gives us the chance to produce a truly democratic and British collection, something that I have been aiming to achieve all my working life. Everything that William Morris and the Bauhaus, both great inspirations to me, hoped to achieve. This is our chance at last. Our discussions with Marc Bolland and his excellent team at M&S have been incredibly productive and inspiring and we cannot say how thrilled we are to be working on this serious design project."

The preview collection will be available in stores and online from September 2011.
