Balmain announced today that Olivier Rousteing is to replace Christophe Decarnin following Decarnin's departure from the French fashion house earlier this month.

Rousteing joined Balmain in 2009 and currently oversees womenswear, Before working at Balmain, Rousteing worked at Roberto Cavalli for five years, which should stand him in good stead for creating the Euro glam rock chic aesthetic that became Balmain's trademark during Decarnin's tenure at the helm.

Rumours had been circulating about Decarnin's imminent departure following his absence from Balmain's autumn/winter 2011/12 show back in March. His departure is said to be due to strategic disputes with chairman Alain Hivelin.
