A 10-year-old girl has been struck by lightning in her own home.

Erin Moran is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a bolt whilst watching a storm rage outside her attic window.

The effect was so strong that it SCORCHED the carpet under her feet after surging through her body.

The youngster now has a huge scar on her upper arm as a result of the strike, which also left half inch entry and exit holes in the double-glazed window of the loft room she was in.

Her parents, Rhian and Mark, 40, told reporters how they rushed Erin to hospital after hearing her screams.

Father-of-two Mark said: 'Erin's a very lucky girl. The lightning went right through her. The doctors were astounded. The first to see her just said, 'Wow!''

The bolt hit three homes in the family's road in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.

HOW lucky is Erin?
