Caffeine Can Prevent Pregnancy

If you're trying to conceive, put down that coffee cup.

New research has shown caffeine can hinder your chances of conceiving.

While numerous studies have linked caffeine with a struggle to conceive, researchers from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno think they've found the reason it hinders baby making.

They've found caffeine stops the smooth muscles in the Fallopian tubes from contracting – something that helps eggs move down the tubes from the ovaries to the womb.

Study leader, Sean Ward, says caffeine has an effect on muscle activity in the Fallopian tubes 'in concentrations well within what people are drinking':

'This finding provides an intriguing explanation as to why women with high caffeine consumption often take longer to conceive than women who do not consume caffeine.'
