Lady Gaga couldn't hold back the tears during an appearance at the Save Japan press conference in Tokyo last night.

The music icon was forced to wipe her eyes as she started crying while listening to a speech by US Ambassador to Japan, John V. Roos - at the event sponsored by MTV Video and Music Aid.

Gaga has flown into Japan to take part in a charity concert being held this Saturday, to help raise money for victims of the March quake and tsunami disaster.

The 24-year-old also gave an emotional speech during the conference, declaring that Japan is one of her "favourite places on earth."

"It's important that we remind the world that Japan is now safe, that the doors are wide open for tourists from all over the world to come and enjoy this beautiful country," she said.
