Couture Review: Giambattista Valli A/W 2011

Couture Review: Giambattista Valli A/W 2011

A look from Giambattista Valli's debut haute couture collection. PA

THE INSPIRATION: Valli's signature femininity courtesy of jungle prints, ruffles, embroideries and feathers

TOP LOOKS: A dramatic coral gown and cape; the bustier top and tiered feather-skirted finale frocks

WHO WAS THERE: The top editors, who were completely enamoured of the debut collection, plus a bevy of PYTs (Olivia Palermo, Margherita Missoni, Vanessa Traina) the designer dresses. And Sasha P and Liya Kebede on the catwalk!

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Hello, gorgeous! Giambattista Valli may be a newbie at couture week (yes, this is his first collection!) but he scored a home run with a bevy of looks that translate easily - and beautifully - from the catwalk to reality. His feminine flourishes came courtesy of pearls, flowers, lace and bows and translated into pure, wearable prettiness. We love the palette of black, white, pinks, reds and jungle print, and especially adored the flowing dress silhouettes with billowing capes trailing behind and a statement gold choker or belt for embellishment.
