Kate Hudson and her partner Matt Bellamy recently welcomed a baby boy - and called him Bingham Hawn Bellamy.

Bingham was born at 7lb 7oz in Los Angeles last Saturday night after 4.5 hours of labour.

And now the Fool's Gold actress and Muse frontman have explained the reasoning behind the unusual name.

A delighted Matt revealed on his Twitter that he was 'so happy' and explained their inspiration for the name, which was down to family connections.

The singer said: 'For those wondering, Bingham is my mum's maiden name. Bing Russell was also Kurt [Russell's] dad. Family connections all around!'

Kate, whose biological father is Bill Hudson, has always considered Kurt, her mother Goldie Hawn's partner of 28 years, to be her main father figure.

And middle name Hawn will no doubt be in tribute to the baby's famous grandmother.
