London is now into its final year of preparations for the 2012 Olympics. To mark the date the organisers have released this image of the Olympic Stadium, with a number one cut into the centre of the pitch.

Recently the aquatics centre, designed by Zaha Hadid was completed. Unfortunately for many people this is about as close to the stadium they'll get, after many people were unlucky in the ticket ballot last month.

Guidance: This image may take a while to load depending on your connection.

The stadium is north of the river, in Stratford. The photo looks south, towards Docklands and across the river to Greenwich.

The Republicans cheered when Chicago was not chosen. That says it all about where their patriotism lies. From the moment Obama was elected they became Anti-American.

With the political unrest formenting in Brazil over the lack of equality especially over the games, I'd avoid the whole country till several years after the games.
