PRESS ASSOCIATION -- The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have visited a community centre near the spot where three men were killed during last week's riots.

William and Kate were chatting to local residents and business people at Summerfield Community Centre in Winson Green, Birmingham.

The royal couple were also meeting local dignitaries and emergency services staff.

The centre is a short distance from the scene in Dudley Road where three men were struck by a car as they tried to protect shops and homes from looters.

Haroon Jahan, 21, and brothers Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31, died in the early hours of August 10. They were buried on Thursday after an open-air funeral service attended by more than 20,000 mourners.

The Duke and Duchess were greeted outside the community centre by Paul Sabapathy, Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Councillor Anita Ward, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, and Chris Sims, Chief Constable of West Midlands Police.

The couple spent 15 minutes speaking with the bereaved families of the men who were killed before moving into the centre's sports hall to meet members of the emergency services and local dignitaries.

Kate wore a navy blue pencil skirt with gold buttons on the front, teamed with a cream blouse with matching buttons and navy blue military style detailing.

The outfit, which accentuated her slender frame, was finished with a pair of high-heeled navy blue court shoes.

William wore a navy blue suit with a pale blue shirt and a blue patterned tie.

Now this would only be interesting if they were going there to spread a little wealth...

While I agree that its not particularly interesting, they were just doing what the members of the UK's constitutional monarchy are expected to do when bad stuff happens. It is just the same in countries where the head of state is a mostly ceremonial president and the real power is in the hands of a prime minister (or equivalent). No one in those countries would expect their president to hand out cash on the spot.
If you're an American, I appreciate you may not be aware of the different situation in countries where the ceremonial/symbolic and executive roles are split between two people (or in the case of monarchies, the executive leader + a whole family of other people) as the US President is both roles in one person.

I suggest that HRM declare Philip and his laughable bride the Duke and Duchess of Hackney, they would fit right in. As it stands they are among the dumbest, most useless people in all of Cambridge.

Of course, even in a solemn occasion such as this, they HAD to mention and describe what she was wearing. That was entirely inappropriate.

I thought they were both ghastly - 80s tat. Hideous price as well $2000 for the 2 according to the Daily Mail. I guess she's dropped the High Street retailers. With that much money you would think she could find something better than this for the price!
