JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel will reunite Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- JJ Abrams has finally confirmed he will direct Star Trek 2.

According to Vulture, it's expected that the script for the movie will be completed this month and filming could begin this winter.

It has long been speculated that the US filmmaker would direct the sequel to his 2009 hit, but until now he has avoided saying he will be directing.

JJ recently directed and wrote Super 8, produced by Steven Spielberg.

It is thought that Paramount Pictures will release the as yet untitled sequel next year, reuniting Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine.

In August, the director suggested he had not yet signed up for the film, saying: "Once you say, 'We're ready to go, but we don't have a finished script yet', or, 'I'm directing the thing and here's the release date, but we don't have a finished script', what starts to happen is that you're suddenly in production on a movie where you're thinking, 'Oh my God, we weren't really ready!'"

Oh, and study up on Vulcans, they don't hop into bed to have sex just any time.
It's once every 7 years.

YOU HAVE 2 CHOICES:
1. TIME TRAVEL & UNDO THE DESTRUCTION OF VULCAN
2. OR NEVER MAKE ANOTHER CENT FROM ORIGINAL FANS [the MOST loyal]
You want to be remembered as the person who drove a stake through the heart of Star Trek?

Can't wait, this will be a great movie as I was always a fan of Star Trek but only the original version from the sixties, later shows were good but lacked something. The casting for these new films is good the guy who plays Spock is spot on even Captain Kirk looks the same.

A great, visually stunning film which used special effects brilliantly, without ever having to rely on them.

Awesome. Can't wait to see the sequel.

As a lifelong Trek fan, I definitely enjoyed the alternate universe "reboot" of Star Trek. Bring it on!

I absolutely loved the new Star Trek movie! ^__^ I come from that generation that was raised on the original ST movies as well as watched with my dad all the episodes of the original series. So yeah, I definitely love ST and am very opened to the new ones. I think the new ST film was fresh and exciting. It was a good idea they included the original Spock in the mix, just to bridge the gap between old and new ST fans. I'm glad JJ Abrams decided to hold off on any comments until the script was underway. :)

Liked Super8, disliked his re-start of Star Trek. Liked the cast, but the story was not good at all. Let's hope they do better this time.

Not that there was any doubt that there would be a sequel, but it's good to know that the director feels what he has is strong enough to sign on for.

I only have one request. Can we take the stupid brewery out of the middle of the Enterprise?

I completely enjoyed that movie! I am hoping they bring all the usual suspects back to it. I thought they were great as the young version of the 60's cast. Especially McCoy, Leonard H.
