The women in David Cameron's Cabinet have been branded "an ugly bunch" by one of the Prime Minister's high-profile advisers.

Retail guru Mary Portas said she could not bear to look at them and would relish the chance to restyle them and "put a bit of sex and glamour in there".

In an interview with Heat magazine, she said: "If I were PM I'd restyle all those women. I mean, the female Cabinet, what an ugly bunch."

She continued: "Do you know, I could not look at them. I go in for meetings now and they do dress up for my meetings, but I just want to go, "Pleeease no, not that necklace, not that skirt'."

Ms Portas, known as the Queen of Shops for her retail makeovers, was tasked by the premier earlier this year with reviving the UK's high streets.

Drawing a contrast with the continent, she said of French women: "They're like, 'wow', aren't they? What do we have? I'd say let's just put a bit of sex and glamour in there."

She also rejected suggestions that the Duchess of Cambridge was a "fashion icon".

"I think she's done an incredible job globally but I do not know how you can say she is a fashion icon. I just don't get that," she added.

I have resisted commenting on Mary Portas's rather bizarre remarks until today when I read them once again in the Huff Post.
Sadly Mary became a little unattractive with her comments on cabinet women and I do not mean the exterior kind. My clothes do not make me! There has never been a time where women from all over the world need to pull together to show that we are here to stay. That we are a large part of world economies. That we are, and will continue to make a difference in the world.
a woman who has the courage to stand up and be visible in her community has an extroadinary beauty. Ugliness is only visible when we choose to view others from our own lack or fear. We are beautiful. Clothes do not the woman make

Cameron has claimed that he wants to re-package Britain, what a wonderful way to start the process. How about a beauty contest for the female tory members of parliament, as for the chaps, some paper bags on the head should do the trick in beautifying them.

Good grief. First, who cares how they dress? I want my leaders to lead not be fashion mavens.

Second, why didn't she call out some of the men as well. Awful lot of frumpy looking toads there as well.

But honestly, her calling others ugly, and un-sexy? A question for you Ms. Portas, have you looked in a mirror lately?

David Cameron is supposed to not be doing very well with women after his "calm down dear" comment and failing to take Nadine Dorries question seriously.

If Mary were to give the cabinet women a makeover I would imagine the sight of the PM commenting on how sexy and glamorous the Home Secretary and Baroness Warsi are now they’ve put on a bit of lippy, shaved the tash and ditched the Thunderbirds jacket would do him no favours.

And all of this on the very day her new series starts!

Cheap, blatant publicity-seeking.

Similarly a couple of weeks ago Dappy of Ndubz was the victim of an embittered ex-girlfriend leaking naked photos of him...just days before the release of his new album.

People have to be pretty foolish to believe this is anything other than being nasty to get your face seen.

If they were good looking they'd be married to rich tw@s or making a carreer in real life ... out in industry somewhere, assaulting the board rooms in black suits and high heels.
