Heating Is The Number One Cause Of Arguments In The Home

Couples Argue Over Heating Most During Winter

One of you is too cold in bed, the other is stressed about the soaring costs of the heating bills. It's perhaps not surprising then that the heating of the home is the number one catalyst for rows between couples in winter, according to new research.

The study, by thermostat heating experts Honeywell found that the temperature of the house sparks the most arguments during the winter, with four out of 10 couples admitting that the heating causes at least two tiffs a day.

More than half of the 2,000 people questioned admit that they struggle to sleep in the winter because they are too warm. One third argue over one person wanting to have the heating on overnight.

When couples aren't arguing about the heat of the bedroom, they are sniping about when to turn the heating on.

A quarter admitted that they couldn't bear to have the thermostat turned up when the temperatures outside aren't that cold, yet one in ten revealed that they start turning up the heat as early as August.

"It's amazing something as simple as heating the house could cause so many disputes between couples," says a spokesperson from the study.

"It is a case of finding that balance between getting an agreeable temperature, saving energy and being able to afford the heating bills at the end of a cold spell but fitting a thermostat can certainly help keep heating bills lower and help stop rows."

We set the thermostat at 68 degrees during the later part of fall. When the thermostat goes below 68 degrees, the furnace comes on. We're in a townhouse, so if the temperature is cooler in the house,
my husband and I wear a sweater etc. In the winter, if the house is especially cold, we raise the temperature on the thermostat and wear long sleeved clothing. I can honestly say we've never had an argument about heating. One room in our house is especially cold in the winter and we bring a
portable floorboard heater into that room, but only turn on the heater when we're in that room. We are
very careful not to leave it on as portable heaters, as everyone knows, take a lot of electricity to run
and should never be left on unattended. We use that cold room as a storage room so we don't need
to go in there very often. Good thing too. Every home has it's problem areas and that 's ours.

Why would Esure know about how many times couples argue over sex or lack of? What does this have to do with insurance? Not a good source for information!

Heating and cooling shouldn't be a huge problem until you hit the hot-flash and night sweat demographic!

1 ) Women for the most part, always feel cold, perhaps it is their constitution
2 ) Yes, women snore . It is a two way street.
3 ) Money is always an issue both partners need to understand the word Budget.
4 ) The question of sex should have been agreed upon before the marriage.
5 ) Household chores should also have been agreed upon before the marriage.

Couples disagree , that is normal. It does not mean trouble if you actually love the other person.
I wish everyone well !

My poor husband has endured cool temps in the house for the last 10 years by wearing a hoodie or sweatshirt..Now that my internal thermostat is no longer out of whack due to those darn hormones, we crank up the heat to 66 during the day and 62 at night. You know you've got a good man when he never mentions the M word and doesn't complain about freezing.

What do you expect the guys from Honeywell to find besides temperature issues?
