Justin Bieber's week just got a whole lot better with news that the paternity suit brought against him by a fan has been dropped, according to TMZ.com

The 17-year-old superstar had agreed to take a paternity suit, following Mariah Yeater's claims that she had become pregnant following a brief encounter - 30 seconds to be precise - with him after a concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

However, his lawyers always called the claims "fabricated and vindictive".

TMZ.com report that lawyers acting for the 20-year-old woman have withdrawn the lawsuit, which demanded the star take a DNA test, and pay monthly maintenance for her four-month-old son.

Bieber made it clear it was business as usual following the initial suit, appearing at the MTV EMA Awards in Belfast last week, turning on the Christmas lights in West London and escorting his girlfriend Selena Gomez on a romantic tour of Paris.

But, his good humour apparently deserted him in London yesterday, where he was caught giving paparazzi a defiant finger-gesture as he left a Knightsbridge restaurant.

Just seen that Justin's legal team are saying that he is going to go ahead and have a DNA test, although a date hasn't been set yet.

I believe it is the only logical thing to do if he is innocent.

As a performer who's fan base is mainly teenage girls, his reputation is worth millions to him so a test would be money very well spent.

This has pay-off written all over it.

On another note, can I just point out that a 17-year-old boy in his position, with his money and looks, who is not making the most of the 'opportunities' life can offer would have to be the weirdest, messed-up no-hoper in history.

He just needs to learn how to 'cover up' before the deed, rather than afterwards.

Because him 'openly agreeing' to the paternity test and then her going quiet is exactly the terms of the pay off agreement. In his place most innocent people would have demanded the right to make the paternity test public. In my opinion anyway!

I don't now much about who this Jesus Beaver kid is anyways, but what I would like to see happen though is - for his solicitors to sue her all the way to Antarctica and back, to teach her some sense and common decency, and hope the other silly girls out there don't threat innocent people with nonsensical false accusations and demands for money.

Quite possible this girl has some mental issues. Not that unusual anymore for someone to make outrageous claims against a another in the spotlight. I feel sorry for her but mostly for her child.

To all the Bieb Fans out there that think the suit being dropped means that he's not the baby daddy - I hate to be captain obvious, but it's really quite the opposite. It was dropped because the mom was paid off by Biebs, because there's a chance he'd fail that test, girls! Come ON, think about it! I know you're all young, but maybe consider this your first reality check. He got the girl knocked up and has the money to keep it quiet. You'll get proof in due time. By then you'll all be jaded like the rest of us. Better to idolize people who are truly making the world a better place, not some oversexed 17 year old pretty dime-a-dozen entertainer. They'll always let you down. Better yet, start reading books. Preferably ones written decades before you were born.

Hey can win very easily. Paternity tests are fast, simple, accurate and inexpensive.

If he genuinely didn't have sex with Mariah, why isn't he pushing for his right to spend the $100 it would cost to clear his name?

It only takes a few seconds to do a paternity test - all you have to do is roll a cotton bud around your mouth to get your DNA and send it off for testing.

As you can see from all the comments on here, a lot of people will assume he paid her off, unless he can prove otherwise.

Given that it would be so very easy for him to prove his innocence, and it would put the minds of so many of his fans at rest, why isn't he doing it? Isn't clearing his name gaining control of his life again rather than giving it up?

I knew it all along and said so. JB was smart to hold his ground. The "young woman" was out only for a quick buck. She accused her ex and who knows who else. No one is going to take her seriuosly now. I hope she finds the daddy! Every child needs 2 parents.

If he's innocent, he doesn't have to go down the time-consuming and expensive road of suing her, he simply has to take the DNA test.

When so many people are claiming that he paid her off, you have to ask, why isn't he pushing for his right to take the test and clear his name?
