Hotel Review: Chewton Glen, New Forest, Hampshire

One of the New Forest's most luxurious five-star hotels, Chewton Glen delivers old-fashioned charm with impeccable service – the perfect special-occasion location.

The USP: Elegant, traditional New Forest hotel with a chic spa, divine food and plenty of special touches ("Homemade cookies and mineral water for your car journey home, madam?" "Why, thank you very much!")

Book it now if: You've got something special to celebrate and fancy being treated like royalty.

Bedding down: Classic, but with quirky little twists, no two rooms or suites are the same. Nearly all come with balconies or terraces, along with organic skincare goodies in the plush bathrooms and cute extras like fruit baskets as standard.

Feed me: A stunning conservatory, sun-filled or candle-lit depending on the season, is home to Chewton Glen's gourmet restaurant. Seasonal, local produce is the flavour of the day, with a waist-band-popping Tasting Menu Gourmand on offer for those feeling hungry.

Easily bored: With the New Forest on your doorstep and the sea just a 15-minute walk away, we should tell you to wrap up warm and take on the elements (perhaps taking advantage of the complimentary mountain bikes on offer to all guests), instead we'll tell you to wrap up in your robe and fluffy slippers and hit the award-winning spa. Treatments come courtesy of exclusive brands like Ila, and the loungers by the pool are the perfect place to while away hours on end reading glossy magazines. If you really do want some exercise, there are also tennis courts, a golf course and a croquet lawn.

What's the damage: A one-night stay starts at £299, while suite prices range from £561 to £1,482.
