Kim Cattrall's Play 'Private Lives' Ends Run Six Weeks Early

Sex In The City Star's Play Ends Run Early

Sex And The City star Kim Cattrall's latest foray into theatre appears to have ended in disaster after it was revealed that her revival of Noel Coward's Private Lives will end its run several weeks early, reports the Washington Post.

The three act comedy about a divorced couple honeymooning in the same hotel was scheduled to run on Broadway until 12 February but instead will end on New Year's Eve after 65 shows.

Producer Paul Elliott told the paper: "Despite fantastic reviews, ticket sales have been slower than we had hoped for and it would be irresponsible to continue running into the notoriously difficult January period."

The show's failure in New York is in stark contrast to its earlier run in London where the show - along with Cattrall's portrayal of the tempestuous Amanda - earned rave reviews and was a commercial success.

Despite its popularity in the UK, Coward's play - which was nearly censored for being too risqué when it was first performed in Britain in 1930 - has a miserable time on Broadway last week where it took $327,173 (£209,538) at the box office from a potential haul of $854,405 (£547,205), with attendance at around 54 percent.
