The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a strapless black Alexander McQueen gown as she accompanied her husband and brother-in-law at the Sun Military Awards. The Duke and Duchess also took part in the ceremony, presenting the award for Most Outstanding Soldier to Sergeant Ryan McCready.

The Sun also described Kate's emotional reaction to the stories being shared, as she held back tears during the Overcoming Adversity award as the audience heard how winner Scott Meenagh, 22, had lost both legs after being blown up by a Taliban mine in Afghanistan but had learned to walk again, going on to become a medal-winning waterskiier.

Joining the royals at the event were a cross section of British celebrity - David Beckham turned up with sons Romeo and Brooklyn, the TOWIE crew (past and present) were represented by Amy Childs, Lydia Bright and James Argent, Strictly judge Alesha Dixon and Strictly winner Harry Judd popped along, X Factor winners Little Mix got their glam on for the red carpet, and there were more soap stars than you can shake a stick at.
