Russell Brand and Katy Perry have reignited rumours their marriage is in trouble by reportedly spending Christmas 7,000 miles apart.

Just weeks ago, funnyman Brand appeared on a US chat show to dismiss reports the couple is heading for a split, telling viewers: "There are always rumours, aren't there? In the end you have to just not engage with internet technology... I've treated the whole internet now like it's a wicked little liar. I am really happily married."

But according to reports, Brand is spending the festive season at a rented cottage in Cornwall, England, while Perry has been snapped splashing around in the surf in Hawaii.

People.com quotes a source claiming the I Kissed a Girl singer was seen soaking up the sun with pals on a beach in Kauai without her wedding ring on.

And The Sun has published a photo of Brand enjoying a Christmas lunch with regulars at a pub in Cornwall before heading to a nearby beach to support his pal David Baddiel as he took part in a charity swimming event.

The couple wed in October last year after a whirlwind 13-month romance but have been dogged by rumours of a split in recent months, with reports suggesting their hectic schedules keep them apart for months at a time.
