Justin Timberlake is Sir Elton John's top choice to play him in a forthcoming biopic on the rock and roll star's early life.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 60-year-old musician said Timberlake had been "superb" when he played him in a David LaChapelle video of Rocket Man.

He told the paper: "I've got a wish list of people. No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake."

John and his partner David Furnish are producing the biopic, which has the provisional title of Rocket Man. He said: "It's going to be a surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of a "Moulin Rouge!"

"I just don't want it to be a normal biopic because my life hasn't been like that. And it only goes up to when I go into rehab in 1990. It starts with me going into rehab and ends when I come out."

Timberlake, who rose to fame in boyband NSync and has since gone on to have a successful solo and acting career, certainly has the lungs for the role - but is there someone more suited to play the very British performer? Vote from our shortlist, or add your own idea below...

I have been a great fan of Sir Elton for many years now and the thought of seeing his life story on the big screen fills me with fear. I like the idea of it but the reality is something different. I think because I have read many bio's of the great mans life and to be honest I thought they were not a good story, but that may be just me of course. As to who plays the part should this happen then I would think Justin Timberlake is for me the best of the bunch. Did he not play Elton in one of his songs?
