Brighton And Hove Albion Footballers Arrested Over Alleged Sex Attack

UPDATE: The sixth player arrested is reported to be a former Brighton and Hove Abion footballer, now playing for Bournemouth.

Six Brighton and Hove Albion footballers have been arrested over an alleged sex attack in the city in July last year, according to Sussex Police.

Five of the men are from Brighton, one is from Dorset. They are all aged between 18 and 24. The identities of the players has not been disclosed.

The alleged incident was reported to police in July, but investigating officers have only recently identified the suspects.

All of those arrested were detained on Thursday morning.

There has so far been no comment from the Championship club, managed by former Chelsea man Gus Poyet.

According to Sussex Police: "All have been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and taken to different custody centres in Sussex where they will be questioned in relation to an alleged sexual assault on a woman in July last year.

A spokesperson for the Brighton club confirmed that five members of their squad had been arrested. The club said it will be assisting the police with their enquiries.
