Coronation Street actor Andrew Lancel has revealed he loved being in the dock as soap villain Frank Foster.

Frank's trial for the rape of ex-fiancee Carla Connor begins this week, and Andrew - who starred as policeman DI Neil Manson in The Bill for seven years - admitted he had loved filming the court scenes.

Andrew said: "It was brilliant. I have always wanted to do a big court room drama.

"I did hundreds of trial-y things in The Bill but I've never been in the dock before. But it was great."

Corrie bosses filmed two outcomes to Frank's trial to keep fans guessing whether the malicious rapist manages to escape being put behind bars for what he did to Carla.

Andrew said: "You literally had to switch from guilty and not guilty. Not just the words but what happens afterwards. So it was very exciting. Keeping people guessing and keeping us all guessing. I think it's quite apt really for the way this man has twisted and turned since he set foot in that place. It's very apt to keep those twists and turns right down to the very end."

It has been rumoured Frank will walk free, and the aftermath of him getting away with all his terrible deeds will lead to his death.

But Andrew was keeping his lips sealed as to whether Frank will be killed off.

He said: "Whatever Frank's outcome it's been a gift from day one, so I don't mind which way it goes."

He added conspiratorially: "I know which way it goes and I've always known, so I've never minded."
