Merkel knows it is wrong to adopt the Anglo-American mantra in printing more and more money. And what is wrong in serving your electorate ? Germans were and are behind helping Greece, but Germans are sick and tired of being made responsible for their functioning economy. When Merkel speaks up she is accused of dominating Europe, and when she is silent, she is accused of not taking responsibilities. Is it our fault we happen to make products that we can sell worldwide, no matter in what currency ? Remember, we were one of the leading export nations before the Euro as well.

This very able lady is looking very tired. I hope she can keep up the pace. She is much needed.

Dont forget Merkel is E.German, which means she is very very German. Germany spent huge amounts of money when the border opened to Eastern Germany. East found they could not survive in W germany or europe with rents, homes, gadgets far out of their reach so they are the cheap labour that is building a very powerful nation once again. Germans displaced after the war, from Russia and states who were stolen as children are going back to their fatherland believing it will be great once again. France wants and needs the european union to keep Germany at bay. 2 world wars the germans wanted France and still do. No union to protect them... No France. There is no way out of the depression coming..... Banker's investors etc will lay on the beach on the money they stole from the common man. Merkel wants the euro to work while it is working on its grand plan to build the fatherland into a stronger position. 30s depression took 20yrs to get over. Germans still remember the injustices the West imposed after the the great War, It caused the 2nd. Merkel is very German!!!

This is so absurd.

Merkel is responsible for Europe's absolutely lackluster response to the crisis and for dragging it screaming back into recession, if not depression. Her analysis is completely wrong, steeped into dogmatism and denial fueled by pride, she doesn't want to admit that she was wrong about the Euro and that everything she has done has compounded the problems. She will not admit to being wrong no matter how much the facts prove her wrong.

If it was just a matter of theory, it would be bad enough, but her stubborn refusal to accept the truth means that she is imposing unnecessary suffering on millions of Greeks, Irish, Spanish, Italians and Portuguese.

Her proper place is not to give the opening speech, but sitting in a corner with a dunce hat, scorned and mocked.

In your list, "Greeks, Irish, Spanish, Italians and Portuguese"? Lets not forget her own people the Germans who have given more than any country ought to? Merkel is a rogue bringing about the mass collapse of the Euro by plowing more and more and more into it, it will never work. People say that it has too. It can't work. Unless you brain wash an entire continent into faceless europeans with no identity. Thats what Hitlers master plan was, wasn't it? Write off all debt for every country. Return to there respective currency's and merely start again. Print some money and get people back to work building, making, exporting, importing, training. devalue all currencies across the globe. Make the Bankers bonuses worthless and just start again. Take away the power from the rich, repatriate public companies back to there respective country's like Water, Gas, Electricity, Oil. Keep them state owned so poor people can have the essential things in life without starving and dying through not being able to afford it. Pensioners being able to switch the fire on and keep warm. BASICALLY PUT PEOPLE BEFORE THE E,£,$. Put the sick first and stop charging £100g for an operation that will save a life.

Angela Merkel, please explain why Germany's Currency printers have been told to print Dutchmarks ? Currently Germany is stockpiling there new (old) currency? Plan B?

This is just an internet rumour.

One source of such "information" is a market stall which said it would accept DM! With such definitive evidence, who could be in any doubt!

Actually your'e probably right and I must admit to not only reading it on the internet but also hearing it from a German friend who lives in Berlin. His daughter who works at a plant outside Munich has told him they are printing new Dutchmarks by the billions. New style notes. Now he is prone to gossip but his daughter does work at one of Germany's oldest government printer's who print currency. Rumour or not, three or not, the story will gather pace and only time will tell. Merkel is needed in Germany and it appears many Germans do like her. But Many many Germans are growing tired of there wealth being distributed across Europe.
