Amanda Holden's Husband Thanks 'Incredible' NHS Staff For Saving Her Life

'Thank You'

Amanda Holden's relieved husband Chris Hughes has praised the NHS staff who helped save the star's life.

The Britain's Got Talent star checked herself into hospital on Monday and gave birth to little Hollie Rose a week early via an emergency caesarean section. The birth left Amanda in a critical condition after she began bleeding heavily, and the star had several blood transfusions to keep her alive.

Her newborn also faced breathing difficulties and was put on a respirator, while terrified new dad Chris stayed by his girls' sides.

The actress, 40, is now in a stable condition after four days in hospital, and her partner has released a statement thanking doctors and midwives for their tremendous work.

A rep for the couple said: "He is so grateful. The doctors and nurses have been incredible.

"Amanda was in a bad way and it was their skill and dedication that helped her through. She lost a lot of blood and needed several transfusions. It was touch and go for a while.

"Chris and the family were very worried she might not make it. But she has been stable for over 24 hours and doctors are happy."

The star is now concentrating on her recovery and hopes to be home in time for the weekend to spend time with her new baby and six-year-old daughter Lexi.

Amanda's homecoming will be especially poignant, as the new mum and baby were kept apart for the first three days of Hollie's life.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: "Amanda is still extremely woozy - she has been under heavy sedation following Hollie's birth.

"She was in intensive care for three days, you definitely cannot bring a newborn into intensive care, so Wednesday night was the first time she could have met Hollie after doctors judged that she was stable."
