Robert Vaughan Set For Coronation Street, Despite Never Seeing An Episode!

How Can He Not Have Seen It?

Hollywood hotshot Robert Vaughn had never seen an episode of Coronation Street before signing up to walk the show's famous cobbles.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is swapping spying for soap operas when he turns up in Weatherfield next week.

He's set to appear for a three-week stint as a rich American called Milton who woos battleaxe Sylvia Goodwin, played by Waiting For God star Stephanie Cole.

Despite causing a buzz with his upcoming cameo, he admits he's never actually seen the nation's longest running soap.

He says: "It was a call out of the blue. I'd never seen the show. I had heard about it because it has been around since I started coming to England 50 years ago."

Despite his failings, Robert soon got into the lingo, and enjoyed a pint of bitter down the Rovers Return in his very first scene.

He adds: "They just told me the story and it was kind of interesting. I don't get to play nice guys very often so I said yes. My first scene was in the Rovers and Milton surprises Sylvia by turning up as she's in the middle of a musical contest between her and (character) Norris (Cole)."
