Pulp are to be rewarded for their outstanding contribution to music at the NME Awards.

The band, who reunited last year for a series of shows including a performance at Glastonbury, will play live at the show, to be staged at London's O2 Academy Brixton on February 29.

Pulp, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, racked up hits with tracks such as Disco 2000 and Common People.

They will be presented with the Teenage Cancer Trust outstanding contribution to music award at the event. Noel Gallagher is to collect the other honorary title, the godlike genius award.

NME editor Krissi Murison said: "Pulp are one of the wittiest, cleverest and most brilliant bands the UK has ever produced."

And how long ago was that???
Really and truly - this award is total pat on the back , job for the boys type stuff - something that doesn't quite match the image of all those years ago does it.

How sad really.
