Ever dreamed of a US version of The Thick Of It? Or a comedy version of The West Wing? Well, your dreams are set to come true in just a couple of months thanks to Veep, Armando Iannucci's satirical jab at White House's behind-the-scenes blundering.
Starring the immensely talented and exceptionally funny Julia Louis-Dreyfus (still best known as Seinfeld's Elaine) and Tony Hale (still best known as Arrested Development's Buster) it tells the tale of a loveable but slightly incompetent Senator Selina Meyer as she somehow finds herself a heart attack away from being the President.
It's a bit of a miracle that Veep exists, actually - originally conceived as a direct remake of The Thick Of It for American audiences, back in 2007 a pilot was created by ABC without any real direct involvement from Armando Iannucci.
Now, thanks to HBO, the different, more British-based version you're reading about now came to pass, with Iannucci and Peep Show/The Thick Of It/In The Loop writer Simon Blackwell on writing duties and the likes of Tristram Shapeero and Chris Morris directing certain episodes in the first season.
And with this being paid-for cable channel HBO - as opposed to family-friendly ABC - Veep can cuss and swear till the cows come home... just the way The Thick Of It fans like it.
But if you're thinking that this is going to be a simple mickey-take of Sarah Palin - helped in no small part by Louis-Dreyfus and Palin's similar looks - we are assured that it won't be. Best leave that to HBO's real Palin TV movie, Game Change, staring Julianne Moore.
Veep itself will be on US screens come April this year, with no official release date announced for UK audiences as yet. But to remind you of Iannucci's genius, here are our favourite moments from The Thick Of It, all together in this handy video gallery for you below. Needless to say, it's seriously NSFW. Seriously, seriously.
