Primary school pupils watched in horror as two mothers laid into each other, resulting in one allegedly stabbing the other in the forehead.

Headmistress Sally Hindle described the incident as a "very serious disagreement" between the mums last Wednesday morning and has sent a letter to parents warning that those who misbehave will be banned from the school.

Serafina Elliot, 39, of Brixton, south London, was arrested after the incident at Fenstanton Primary School in Tulse Hill, south London.

"The children must have been absolutely horrified at what was happening in front of them and for this to happen in a classroom at a primary school is very, very troubling.

The Head has now sent a letter to all parents saying: "I am writing to you about a very serious incident that took place between two parents here at the school that your child may have witnessed.

"There was a very serious disagreement at the beginning of the school day between two parents.

"I am concerned that some children may have witnessed this and may be anxious at what they saw and heard.

"The children must have been absolutely horrified at what was happening in front of them and for this to happen in a classroom at a primary school is very, very troubling.

"We teach children to express their feelings and emotions in positive healthy ways.

We have spoken to pupils and explained to them that we all have disagreements at times, but we must think about our behaviour and the effect it has on others.

"Parents who cannot behave appropriately are always barred from coming onto our site."

A spokesman for Lambeth Council, which runs the school, said: "Everyone at the school is shocked and upset by what have been an extremely traumatic incident.

"We will ensure the school community is provided with the support it needs and do everything in our power to help the police with their investigation."

Police confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital with two stab wounds to her forehead, but had been discharged.

Elliot has been charged with actual bodily harm and is due before Camberwell Green Magistrates Court tomorrow.
