Antonio Banderas called police in Hungary on Sunday when his wallet was stolen as he arrived in the country, according to reports.

The Mask of Zorro star was mobbed by fans after he landed at Budapest's Franz Lizst airport and made his way to a waiting car.

However, Banderas was fuming to discover his wallet had gone missing in the chaos and contacted cops, according to the Austrian Times.

The website reports local police believe pickpockets used the crowd chaos as cover to target Banderas.

This applies to men: When traveling in high risk areas, do not place your wallet in the open rear pocket of your pants. Jeans are easy for picking (large open pocket). Instead keep your wallet nice and secure in one of your front pockets. It may take some getting use to but is much safer. Never keep your passport in a pocket. Always keep in a hand carried bag with strap around your neck. Other options are to avoid the use of a fat wallet. Only have on you what you need. Separate vital docs from credit cards/cash. You can always replace the cards and a minimal cash loss is survivable. Vital docs like passport, drivers license, checks are a big problem.

I'm wondering why he thinks he should be immune to this type of thing and doesn't/didn't take precautions. Stupid.

Ironic since his native Spain is known as a pickpocket heaven. My wife got pickpocketed twice in just one week in Seville and she's not a naive person. Barcelona is even worse with loads of scams, like pickpockets distracting you by dropping keys, putting dirt on your clothes, etc.

Naive to carry a wallet in a conspicuous spot in some of these countries. My ex MIL had her wallet stolen in Budapest in the '90s. She said it was a nightmare as her passport and everything was in there. She admitted that she should have known better having grown in up Europe. When travelling to some of these central to eastern European countries, be aware and savvy. Keep everything close and inside your clothing.

Don't famous people have enough privacy issues. I'm all for a fun gag and all, but his wallet should have been returned.
