Instead keep your wallet nice and secure in one of your front pockets. It may take some getting use to but is much safer. Never keep your passport in a pocket. Always keep in a hand carried bag with strap around your neck. Other options are to avoid the use of a fat wallet. Only have on you what you need. Separate vital docs from credit cards/cash. You can always replace the cards and a minimal cash loss is survivable. Vital docs like passport, drivers license, checks are a big problem.
