Sian Williams and Bill Turnball on the Breakfast sofa

Sian Williams has presented her last Breakfast show on the BBC, after 11 years on the red sofa alongside Bill Turnbull.

Williams welled up as she made her final bow, despite saying earlier this week that she had been working on an "anti-crying stratergy".

She told her co-hosts and production team: "Thank you, you have been brilliant for 11 years."

And she added to Turnbull: "We've been friends for 20 years, and you're still my best friend.

"Thank you to the viewers for being loyal and passionate and caring about the programme. I've had two children on this sofa, not literally.

"You've been such a wonderful audience, thank you. I will miss you hugely."

During the programme, viewers were given an insight into Williams and Turnball's strange warm-up routine, which revealed how, 15 seconds before the show every morning, they shook their hands out in front of them.

Williams quit her early morning job instead of relocating to the new BBC studios in Salford, citing family reasons.

She has now quashed any rumours of plans to defect to ITV. She told the Daily Mail: "I'm with the BBC. I'm really looking forward to doing the Olympics and going back to the news room, and this new gig on Radio 4. I'm really happy."

And added: "The BBC is in my blood."

Turnbull will continue to host the show when it moves to Salford, alongside Susannah Reid, who already presents weekend Breakfast.

Meanwhile, Williams will rejoin Radio 4 on a Saturday Live programme, as well as presenting BBC One bulletins and Olympics coverage.

I've been praying for this moment, I can't stomach watching that show with her and Bill Turnbull on it. Hope he's next and in good time too.

Sian is a true professional and she and Bill made a great team. Will not be watching Susannah and Charlie because they both try to hog the limelight

I would miss your lovely presence and warm laughs. For me you are irreplaceable. It's a shame you have to leave. However, have a fabulous time wherever you choose to be. Best of luck. nana

A truly great duo split up (hope it aint the case that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts- thanks Arostotle) . Good luck to both Bill and Sian.
Sad day for the BBC, the news doesn't have the same appeal and with only ITV as an alterative looks like we're stuck with them, though way are the replacements anywhere near as good.

Stopped watching it years ago. The show became a vehicle for so called celebrities plugging a new book, film, play or some such nonsense. Wish her good luck though. Like Wogan she is much better on radio, so shall be listening to her show.

Real shame to see the pairing end, I love Bill and Sian. I always feel that both of them really enjoy themselves together yet manage to have a real empathy with the human side of the stories. Good luck in the future in your career and as a mother those of us who 'juggle' will totally wish you well. Stop these really insulting comments, if you have to make a negative remark, it doesn't have to be vicious!

Sian and Bill are the best. Real humans , which is more than can be said for some of their other stiff colleagues. Sian is always well turned out with professional delivery. Cant watch any of the other pairings. Cant watch rupert tv news. Cant watch ITV.
Good morning Radio 4.

Good luck Sian. We are going to miss you so much. Such grace and poise, blended with a brilliant and classy sense of humour. It has been an absolute pleasure waking up to you and Bill in the morning. A brilliant team. Cried my eyes out this morning when they played back your best moments. Very sad, but wish you all the very best in your new endeavours and hope to see you again soon.

Give it 6 months and I bet she turns up on ITV. Sean Williams and Bill were good together though and I am glad he is staying. Wish Sean all the best whatever she does.
