Pedestrian Dog Walking Upright Video - Real Or Fake?

Huffington Post UK  |  By Alastair Plumb  |  Posted: 20/03/2012 10:22 Updated: 20/03/2012 10:22

Readers, we need your help. There are a lot of videos out there on the web that look like they might be doctored by some Final Cut Pro wizards, and this is one of them.

As you'll see from clicking play above, the video in question shows a dog walking across a road. Sure, that doesn't sound that interesting, but the thing is that he's doing it on just two legs. That's right, he's walking upright. Like a human would. Across a road.

Once he's done trotting across a street like Napoleon in Animal Farm, he swiftly gets back down on all fours and carries on like a regular pooch.

But though we're willing to believe that dogs can pull off some pretty amazing tricks, such as balancing on a chain or sliding down a helter skelter, walking on two feet doesn't seem to work for us. Not for this long, and not over a road, anyway.

So what do you think? Dodgy video editing job or the real deal? Let us know in the comment box and poll below.

At around 14,000 views, I question your interpretation of 'viral'; especially since a huge chunk of those views are probably due to this article. You pull the leash up while a dog is walking, there's a good chance it will end up on its hind legs while also maintaining its movement if you only pull hard enough to just keep his upper body lifted. What's next? A video of a dog that can jump 5 ft in the air with their owner helping them?

In the comedy section? Should be in the Dumb R Us section. Dogs can walk on two legs especially when they are small dogs and pulling on the lead. This was posted by Alastair Plumb --- A Plumb, yes you are and you really need to get out more.

We have a rescue dog that used to do this almost all the time, the vet said it's usually down to the poor things being tied up in the garden pulling on their leads.

Now we've had him a few months and he isn't neglected he's stopped doing it.

Organicmechanic1 and YiGeordieBoy both have it completely right...There is nothing at all remarkable about this video just a lack of "dog walking" knowledge from the person asking the question (dog walking upright is it real or not?..).....Most dog owners will have had this experience when walking their dogs for varying reasons, but mostly when a dog is excited or eager to get somewhere and the owner is taking too long...Its simply a dog straining at the leash...get some spectacles and watch the video properly...this is poor reporting...

THE DOG WAS UPRIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS PULLING ON ITS LEAD AND WAS HELD BACK BY IT, IF IT WAS FREE STANDING IT WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ACROSS BEFORE ITS OWNER.

There's nothing even remarkable about this video, many dog owners will know that when the dog is on a lead and their dog wants to hurry the dogs front legs will leave the ground and the dog walks on back legs only (supported by the pull of lead) When the road had been crossed the dog felt safe and stopped pulling.

Stage dogs do it so there is no reason that this dog can't do it.
