It's very rare that we get to see the Pope experimenting with accessories - mostly the papacy tends to take a "si fractum non sit, noli id reficere" line on hats (a plain white zucchetto will suffice for most occasions), shoes (red leather for trips outdoors) and jewellery (a statement gold pectoral cross which would have inspired jealous glances from Elizabeth Taylor).
