Bob Dylan is returning to headline the Hop Farm festival two years after his last appearance at the event.

The veteran singer-songwriter, who played the event in Paddock Wood, Kent, in 2010, joins acts including Peter Gabriel, Suede, Dr John and Primal Scream at the "no branding" festival.

Organiser Vince Power said: "I am really happy to announce the line-up for Hop Farm 2012.

"After last year's success, it's my opinion that Hop Farm is now well and truly on the UK festival map. Furthermore, we have tried to make it the best-value festival ticket by having no hidden charges or added extras."

The three-day festival, which prides itself on being independent and has no VIP areas and a back-to-basics style, kicks off on Friday July 29.

Dylan, one of music's best-known figures, has sold more than 58 million albums around the world in a career that started in the folk scene of the early 1960s.

His move away from his folk roots and embracing of rock music caused controversy - notably at a gig at Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1966 where a member of the audience branded him "Judas" for betraying acoustic music.
