Fans of The West Wing and The Thick of It have been holding their breath for a while now, waiting for the new comedy from the Oscar-nomimated Armando Iannucci - and you can have a glimpse of it here.
Veep is from the creative powerhouse who has made his niche in awkward comedy - In The Thick of It (turned into In The Loop for the big screen and an Academy Award nomination for adapted screenplay), his self-titled show, Gash and Time Trumpet, as well as steering Steve Coogan to greatness in his guise of Alan Partridge.
Veep follows the fortunes of Senator Selina Meyer, who finds herself in the White House, Vice-President and one heartbeat away from the red telephone. It stars Julia-Louis Dreyfus, of Seinfeld fame, and also boasts a cast including Reid Scott, Ken Bulcroft and Justin Doescher (so, yes, basically, no British household names, but a cannon of US comedic talent).
Iannucci has proved himself many times over on home soil, and obviously caught the whiff of US big-budget attention with The Thick of It. Veep is his chance to pull off a Transatlantic success on a Gervais-esque scale - will he manage it?
The jury's out until the season premieres in the US on 22 April, but HBO are obviously confident that the same fly-on-the-wall style that made The Office and The Thick of It such a success will garner the same audiences - they comissioned a whole series a year ago and have given Iannucci full creative control.
