Eastenders
The EastEnders omnibus is saying goodbye after 27 years - will it be missed?

EastEnders fans are up in arms after BBC bosses decided to ditch the Sunday afternoon omnibus of the soap after 27 years.

The omnibus of the award-winning soap about Albert Square residents will now air on BBC One late on Friday, running into the early hours of Saturday morning.

The change was made over the Easter bank holiday weekend but the BBC have confirmed the new slot will be permanent ahead of the Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Euro 2012.

Will you miss the EastEnders omnibus? Let us know...

A show spokesman said: "Viewers now catch up on EastEnders through digital recorders, our BBC Three repeat or on iPlayer. We've therefore decided to move the omnibus."

Fans blasted the decision on internet forums.

One viewer wrote on Digital Spy: "This is so stupid. The Sunday omnibus is tradition. Who'll watch it at that time?"

The first late-night omnibus last Friday saw 477,000 viewers tune in, compared to 792,000 the previous Sunday.

Shame. Sounds like Eastenders in the UK is not getting respect anymore. I watch the show here in the US on public television. Many public stations stop carrying the show years ago and I will not be surprised if in a year or two if it stops airing in the US. Sad. I've been watching Eastenders for 20 years and it's still one of my favorite shows.

well to be perfectly honest, when I saw the time of the omnibus on a friday night/early saturday morning, however you want to look at it.... I was honestly completely annoyed with the BBC. Noone is really up at that time, not everyone have computers such as the elderly, in which case they cannot watch it on bbciplayer, basically they're saying "watch it or tough cheese" thanks BBC! sometimes it was the only thing to watch on a sunday afternoon especially for those who do not watch it during the week and decide to watch it on weekends, and yes that really does bugger up the people who haven't got SKY+ or virgin media blah blah blah.

I think if they just stopped showing it full stop people would get over it with in a couple of weeks, the world is changing so quick that Eastenders is not what it was, it's had it's day now just like Brookside did, Corry seems to keep going that shows never going to pack in.

No great loss !.

never mind ditching the omnibus edition, they should ditch the whole dire show.

Entainment programmes are bound to loose their appeal when become too diluted with too much social engineering.
Esatend is East end not the ideal Herfordshire genteel . The same fate will befall Loose women which is graduaaly being cleansed of loose characters, they only need a few more sally armies and academics to make it fit for sunday afternoons.

burning witches and invading france used to be traditional. we could bring that back on sundays.i'd watch it.
08:25 PM on 04/13/2012
Traditional? Just record it and watch it on Sunday afternoons if you're so set on keeping it there! I agree with the BBC, it doesn't need to take up Sunday afternoon BBC1. What is going to be on instead though? Besides the Jubilee and the Olympics, I mean?

How about some lovely repeats of 'Murder she wrote' 'Colombo' or 'Diagnosis Murder' these always have me reaching for the OFF switch.

Would rather watch repeats form 30 years ago than watch this Frankie Coczza being rammed down our throats
I know its nothing to do with Eastenders but how can The Media promote someone who boasts of his loose morals and admits to taking drugs
What lesson does this teach young people

Big deal - the episodes are soon repeated on BBC3 or whatever, then they're probably available on iPlayer.
Also, take into account how many episodes there are through the week, the bleedin' omnibus takes up most of a Sunday afternoon anyway, so good riddance. Just don't replace it with yet another reality TV behind-the-scenes extra show....
03:10 AM on 04/13/2012
If this is news, who cares? There are already far too many repeats and rubbish on TV anyway. For those who are grief stricken set your timer and record it in the week.
11:25 PM on 04/12/2012
Blimey, if fans are so upset at this drivel being on earlier why not record it and watch it at the same time on a Sunday, I'm just worried what will replace it while I'm eating my lunch.

Not a fan of Eastenders but like you am worried what else will be in its place.

Now ditch the daily episodes and TV will be much better.
