WATCH: Happy Birthday David Coleman! Here's Some Legendary Colemanballs (VIDEO)

One of BBC Sport's most revered commentators, David Coleman celebrates his 86th birthday today.

Possessing an inimitable voice and versatile across a variety of sports, Coleman's commentary and impact on A Question of Sport (when it was good) augmented the corporation's profile covering sports. His performance during Black September at the 1972 Olympics remains a masterclass in composure.

Whereas now the BBC appear to be losing a major event every year, in their heyday Coleman was at the cornerstone of their unrivalled coverage before the advent of Sky.

And then there were his Colemanballs, lapped up expertly on seminal Sunday night satirical show Spitting Image. He even interviewed The Beatles.

Reporting on the Battle of Santiago, 1962:

"Don't try and be bloody clever..."

1-0!

2-0!

GRANDSTAND!
