Embankment

The Bakerloo Tube line in London has been suspended after a tunnel 'obstruction', initially reported as a collapse.

The incident occurred between Embankment and Waterloo, RMT Union sources told LBC News.

TFL denied there had been a tunnel collapse:

TfL Official
There is no tunnel collapse on the Bakerloo line. Our engineers are on site and we are assessing the situation.

The London Fire Brigade said they had attended an incident at the site after smoke was seen to issue from the tunnel at around 6.05am.

However, the LFB said by 7am it was no longer in attendance, and the incident "didn't appear to be anything".

Transport For London said on its website that "the Bakerloo line is suspended between PC and Elephant & Castle due to obstruction in tunnel at Embankment. Severe delays".

Details of the incident are not yet clear, and calls by the Huffington Post UK to TFL, the British Transport Police and the RMT Union have not been returned as of press time.

Maintenance workers on the Tube are currently on a 72-hour strike over pensions.

Some one needs ask London transport just how much of the tube line is below water level ,like the Thames /canals /sewerage works and other bodies of water ,and what happens if the water pumps fail on a certain stretch of the northern line known as the stink line ,if the public knew what was really going on down there then London Transport would be forced to be more transparent .

with the threat of flooding at an underground station just what are the plans if any to evacuate a station ,should not the public be aware of the risk and should they be aware of the escape procedures ?

How come London Transport have gotten away with this for years ! there is no information .

I used to work for LT on bridges and structures and i was told to ignor any cracks under 1 ft in length when we did the inspection on the jubilee line and that was prior to the grand opening !

Months later we found a key block had dropped down 2" inches ,but nothing is ever said about these things .
if something goes wrong and there is an accident its all kept quiet .
I could tell you stories that would make you hair curl .

Lovely, and the maintenance workers are on strike. Hope the Olympics competitors avod the tube. The para-olympians will of course already know that they can't get around due to the lack of wheelchair facilities. London and Britain once again a beacon of civilisation NOT!!

I loved how the story broke first on Twitter, escalated to a collapse on Twitter and the collapse story got corrected on Twitter all before the mainstream news even knew what was happening.
