Mystery Pelican Deaths In Peru: 500 Birds Found Dead in Same Place As Dolphin Carcasses

Dolphin Deaths
Over 500 pelicans were found dead in the same place as the dolphins

The mysterious deaths of more than 500 pelicans in Peru is being investigated by the country's government, after masses of bloated carcasses were found along the northern coastline.

The bodies of five sea lions, 54 blue-footed boobies and a turtle have also been found sprawled on beaches. Even more perplexingly it appears the animals have died onshore, rather than at sea.

Peru's state run news agency put the number of pelicans found dead along the coastline even higher, reporting that more than 1,200 have been found.

Officials have struggled to decipher when the spate of deaths began as many of the creatures discovered along the 43 miles of coastline were badly discomposed, although it seems most of the animals died recently.

Seismic waves created by oil exploration has been ruled out, said the environment agency.

The carcasses have been found in the same place as those of 800 dead dolphins which washed up, bloodied and rotten in Lambayeque between January and April.

The Peruvian government has said it is "deeply worried" about the deaths. Last week, Peruvian Deputy Environment Minister Gabriel Quijandria, said a virus could have been responsible for killing the dolphins, reported Peru's state-run Andina news.

Morobilius, a virus similar to measles in humans has been linked with the dolphins' deaths, however the mammals were so badly decomposed it has been difficult to identify whether this can be proved for certain.

cesium is found in san diego ca in the tuna, the whole sea food chain is disputed for generations from fukushima, and there is little we can do about it. Rivers and watershed around the nuclear reactor leaking more toxic stuff and combining wit earthquakes in japan may 30, 2012 to first week of june that went right through the area across the island of japan. There is no safe level of radiation at all for any. More cesium will be released into the Pacific from Fukushima is three times more than Chernoble, and Pediatric Hospital all over europe know how damaging it is to the bodies all over Europe. If there is another one of thoses at all 42 nuclear reactor time each housing 4 times 1,000 a bombs of in all the facitilies reacting together dumping in to the The North Hemisphere worst case, will the planet be we know nuclear. We know its the most ever amount of nuclear spillage into the ocean ever. We are doing something wrong, we all get mass bad karma, we are all humanity.

This article is poorly researched, Seismic waves created by oil exploration has NOT been ruled out according to scientists. The dolphins have been found to have broken ear bones and bubbles along with hemorrhages in their fatty tissues that receive sound. Also the deputy minister of fishing has resigned due to corruption and other complaints. Perhaps due to farce stories of viral infections to protect other profiting special interests? Here's better articles on the matter: http://news.discovery.com/earth/peru-closes-beaches-120509.html and http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2012/0509/What-s-causing-mass-pelican-and-dolphin-deaths-in-Peru/%28page%29/2

Pulse beam generator ,the US have them in various models the portable one is mounted on a small truck ,it causes incapacity in people ,other models are boat mounted and helicopter mounted ,its cheaper than bullets and noise free ,but it does kill maim and disorientate animals and birds and fish.

Maybe the birds and animals on the beach were poisoned as a way of throwing investigators off on the dolphin death. Make it look like there is a sickness among them.

How can you not notice 800 dead dolphins opn the beach before they are so deterioated that you can't pinpoint what killed them.
Sounds like oil to me. I used to have a summer place in B,C, Canada up in Howe sound. Years ago a company let an oil tanker sink. It sank because a hatch was open. It was sitting on a ledge with a 300 ft drop. They couldn't get it up, and it finally broke in half a fell off the ledge. That was about 47 years ago, and oil is still coming up to this day. Animals who live in the sea can't breath because of it, and animals like birds can't swim because of the oil in their feathers and they drown.

500 of them? On the same beach where a bunch of dolphins mysteriously washed ashore a month ago?

One may conclude that it is possisably radiation from Fukushima that was carried by sea water. A virus could have also stared to grow due ocean conditions in that area.

Ummm..how about the pollution caused by the earthquake, which caused a tsunami, which caused a nuke plant to basically spew all it's crap...I mean it's got to go somewhere, who knows how radiation and nuclear waste travels...

Does anyone even have to ask why these morons have no idea why? Let's see, let's combine the amount of bilge countless ships dump into the oceans everyday along with the seas being fished out (and consequently their food) and the spilling of how many gallons of oil into the water every day? Big big mystery there "experts." Did this kind of thing happen before oil spills, ships polluting the water on massive scales and fish being removed at millions of tons every day? No. Go figure.

I don't know exactly what killed these animals but what probably helped their demise is all of the years of dumping waste into the oceans. Lately, scientists have documented the mercury levels in fish has risen drastically and that is probably a direct result of the crap being dumped into the water on a daily basis. The Dolphins, Pelicans, various other Birds and even that Turtle eat the fish and the things in the water that they deficate on (turtles are herbavores, they eat the kelp and such) and that makes all the other species sick. That is my best guess at what happened to these animals. Its a very sad twisted version of the Circle of Life and goes to show that we as people need to change what we do to the oceans or make things much worse.

Someone once responded to my comment about nature's
response to a man made evolution, for they saw it as
a threat or an old fashioned idea of hocus pocus, but
this photo of dead dolphins on a beach says it far
better than I ever could, which is what happens when
you cross the line between humanism and self made
greed. Sad to see as a vision, isnt' it??

Next it will be humans.

They don't know what it is, but are sure it is unrelated to sonar blasts from seismic testing used in oil exploration? How exaclty did they test and come to that conclusion? Veterinarian Carlos Yaipen, director of Lima's Scientific Organisation for the Conservation of Aquatic Animals examined 20 of the dead dolphins from earlier this month and they had middle ear hemorrhaging, fractures to the ear's periotic bone, lung lesions and bubbles in the blood related to death by acoustic impact. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10797875

When the government is adamant that it is NOT a thing, it usually IS that thing.

With the Government in any country, the biggest cause for anything like this is always the first to be denied for causing it therefore making it more then likely to be the culprit. Governemnts are always denying their activity in anything that is harmful because they don't want to strike fear into the general population but by saying that "we dont have an answer" makes it worse in my opinion.

Exactly what I read. Notice that the story is now changing some? Here is a local report, to me, on the issue and plans to do the same outside out shores.

I'm afraid to suggest that the birds may have been intentionally hurt to drive attention away from the sonic blasts.

Probually all of the toxins and pollution dumped into the ocean along with the radiation residue from Fukushima is finally showing the damage caused by human carelessness/greed.
