Louise Mensch Hits Back At 'Misogynistic Twitter Abuse'

Conservative MP Louise Mensch has hit back at the "misogynistic and bullying" messages she has received on Twitter.

Corby MP Mensch exposed abusive messages she has been receiving online after the Commons culture committee published their report into News International and phone hacking.

Messages have included suggestions that she should star as one of the The Sun's 'Page 3' girls, and other more obscene remarks.

She said she exposed these messages on Twitter "to show what abuse people are capable of behind safety of screens".

Mensch added that many women have been "shamed into silence" by the abuse they receive online.

Louise Mensch
Wow. Thank you all Twitter for the support. I appreciate it. It happens to so many women. I just grabbed some examples.

This is not the first time Mensch has received rough treatment from users of social media. Last month, Frank Zimmerman was jailed for sending a threatening email to Mensch.

Fellow Tory MP Nadine Dorries has been on the receiving end of abuse from Twitter users and has highlighted the "torrent of abuse" she receives.

There has been an increased focus on bullying on social media recently. Liam Stacey was imprisoned for tweeting racist messages about the football player Fabrice Muamba. Another football player, Stan Collymore, has complained about racist messages on Twitter.

She should think about those women, and men, who have been abused, stalked and libelled by the filth employed by her hero Murdoch.

Is it misogynistic to say that Ms Mensch is just a run of the mill political hack? So are Jeremy Hunt, Andrew Lansley, and Michael Gove, and as far as I know the latter are not women.

Besides abusing your 'privileged' staus, Louise, you're a spoiled, on the take brat.

I take it she voted against the report using "strong" language to denounce Rupert from hacking peoples phones and she is upset that people would be upset that she seems to be "ok" with the hacking by, not punishing Rupert to the max. What did she expect flowers from the people?

Hello? Murdoch is the main proponent of this type of 'culture' in our society and yet she's doing everything in her power to give him a free pass.
03:52 on 03/05/2012
She IS that "culture".

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. I saw this girl in action and I am not surprised at all that she resorted to being a Barbie doll at the first sign of offense

It has been my observation that as a species, humans are hardwired to display hostility toward others when disempowered, though usually they will pick a scapegoat rather than engage in depth analysis of the type that will reveal the true cause of their complaint. The personal attacks made against Petra Ecclestone in the comments made on yesterdays HP facebook page provide an interesting example of this. A display of hostility towards Ecclestone is a far more accessible means of addressing something which one feels to be "unjust" - in this case the distribution of wealth and a perceived disengagement from the challenges faced at the base of the economic pyramid. Similarly with politicians such as Mensch and Dorries. In the face of increased levels of civil participation brought about by policy change, let's hope that the general public can develop an increased capacity for depth analysis and constructive approaches toward problem solving.

The White Ticket doesn't wish abuse or harrassment on anyone but Louise Mensch is living in a dream world if she expects some quick sympathy over this. She joined a widely disliked political party and stands for its - if recent news is to be believed - questionable standards of behaviour and outlook. This is a party that is not above the use of abuse and misogny in its own public dealing. She refused to censure Rupert Murdoch, whose media outlets are also not above misogny and abuse, and helped to recraft a fresh association between her party and News Corporation. She sought public office. Why is she so surprised when people confront her with their anger and disappointment. Whether she considers them misogynistic (and they probably are) or abusive (and they probably have been) they are part of the electorate. She should get out more. Meet more voters. She might be surprised to learn that many of them are angry with her personally for her public decisions and more broadly as a representative of her party. As for the misogynists and abusers, please stop. You are making it way to easy for an MP that has made some questionable recent decisions to weather the storm of genuine criticism. She can use news stories like this to hide her party's true motives and the cowardice of her political convictions.

Poor little rich girl.

Mensch, once wrote a Novel called "Career Girls".
Therefore, it not a mile away from being another self styled "Career Politician" whom thinks and Acts as if they are always right.

Mensch made a Meal out of expressing the View that the CM&S Committee Report into Murdoch was to be treated as being a split decision along Party - Line's, while not once mentioning the FACT that the Report was in FACT itself actually carried as a Majority Verdict of the whole CM&S Committee, so that in fact quite frankly she fully deserves any constructive criticism for her being so vocal, and outlandishly in favor of Murdoch.

I agree'..While I have no time for bullies'.This woman(Though not unlikeable) has shown abslolutely no courage of her so-called convictions. This woman'.Who at first who did admittadly ask pertinent questions and earned herself a little credit' Has let herself and every decent person down in this country.Only to follow party loyalty than to do maximum damage to the hated Murdoch empire....Shame on you Mrs Mensch.

Here here,I thought the whole debate was is Murdoch a fit and proper person, which is def not so.To bring in politics, ie whats best for the tories is very wrong, They should have voted on the findings,They should hold their heads in shame. That said watch this space,It,s the guilty ones who have to worry, they know who they are.

Here's another thought.

Mensch has been making a Meal out of her understanding, that at no time during the length of this Committee's investigation did anyone upon the Panel bring up the Question of Murdoch being a Fit, and / or proper person to be running a Company. That was the Case Mensch at least said, " until the last Day of the Committee Sitting ".

However, any Judgement as to whether, or not Murdoch was/is Fit, or a Proper person, was for the Wisdom of the Judgements for EACH Member of the Committee to decide for themselves regardless as to what Mensch herself my have disliked by any Members independent conclusions, of their own opinions, that disagrees with her own opinion, and conclusion which she personally is entitled to by a both a Majority, and Minority of one herself.

If we continue by keep going down the Mensch route, then it won't be long before we are ALL being told what to think, do, and what to say in conclusions.

This is totally Undemocratic behavior of Mensch, within a Free Speech - Democracy.
