Photographer Terry O'Neill's New Exhibition Of Unseen Portraits Reveals Human Side To Global Icons

This week sees the opening of a new exhibition of previously unseen work by legendary British photographer Terry O’Neill.

O’Neill has spent the past sixty years capturing some of the most iconic musicians and celebrities of our times.

His shots include wet-behind-ear portraits of the Beatles, Raquel Welch with her pants down and Audrey Hepburn looking like, well, what she was – the most beautiful woman in the world.

"My works portray the featured stars as they really are, and not how we often see them, distorted by their management and the paparazzi”, O’Neill tells Artlyst - and it’s true, his work is a refreshing change from the heavily orchestrated, air-brushed presentation we’re used to when it comes to uber celebs.

But what the exhibition also captures, by virtue of O’Neill’s many years at the top, is a sense of their respective eras. The photographs, he says, “offer viewers a celebrity-led trip through my sixty year career behind the camera.”

Which sounds to us like a far more interesting way to get your showbiz-fix than flicking through a copy of Hello!

‘IMFAMOUS’ is open now at Alon Zakaim Fine Art and will run until 8 June

I'm old enough to remember when the Beatles' hair was considered long.
