Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz has reached out to Beastie Boys fans following the death of bandmate Adam Yauch and thanked his family and friends for their outpouring of "love and support" since his pal's passing on Friday.

The rapper, known as MCA, died at the age of 47 following a three-year struggle with cancer after doctors discovered a tumour in his salivary gland in 2009.

Jay-Z, Eminem and Justin Timberlake were among the stars who paid their respects following the tragic news and now Horovitz has broken his silence about Yauch's death.

In a post on the Beastie Boys' blog on Sunday night, he writes, "As you can imagine, s**t is just fkd (f**ked) up right now. But I wanna (sic) say thank you to all our friends and family (which are kinda (sic) one in the same) for all the love and support.

"I'm glad to know that all the love that Yauch has put out into the world is coming right back at him. Thank you."

Madonna has also added her own tribute to Yauch by sharing a photo of herself as a young star with the hip-hop pioneer on her Facebook.com page.

In an accompanying post, the pop superstar writes, "The Beastie Boys were one of a kind! And so was Adam! They were all an important part of my musical history and integral to the musical revolution that was happening at the time. I'm very sad to hear about Adam's passing. God bless him and his family."
