Fernando Zylberberg, Argentinian Hockey Player In Falklands Advert, To Miss London 2012 Olympics

Fernando Zylberberg, the Argentinian hockey player who appeared in a provocative Falklands advert, is to miss the Olympics.

Zylberberg filmed the advert on a British memorial he was working out on in preparation ahead of London 2012 with the boast: "To compete on English soil, we are training on Argentine soil."

However the 34-year-old has been left out of a pre-Olympics hockey tournament, meaning he will almost certainly be overlooked for this summer's Games.

The propaganda advert was labelled "tawdry and cowardly" by Falklands veteran Simon Weston, and is now expected to be withdrawn from Argentine TV screens.

Zylberberg was expected to make the cut for his third Olympics, but his participation is improbable after exclusion from the 18-man squad which will take part in a 10-day Malaysian tournament.

He had received threats on social networking sites for starring in the advert.

Can't say what I'd like to here.

I think most athletes try hard not to lose their focus, especially this close to a major event like the Olympics. Perhaps if Zylberberg had kept his eyes on the prize instead of travelling half way round the world for a publicity stunt he may have made the team.

Perfectly put Beenzrgud... fully agree.
Mabe our politicians can take the same view and look out for 'their goals' rather than their opinion polls :)

Half around the world? The islands are about 300 miles off the coast of Argentina.

Well that'll teach him. Also they say the advert is going to be withdrawn from the tv.......but only after its been played 4 more times.

It really doesn't help your credibility much when you first deny that you knew what the video was about and that it was just a 'paid job' .... and then you're forced to admit that you did, in fact, know what you were doing.

Good news. I was worried he'd be boo'd in the opening ceremony and we'd never hear the end of it... The whole affair leaves a bad taste anyway.
