Freddie Mercury To 'Appear' In Queen Musical 'We Will Rock You' Anniversary Show

Freddie Mercury

Late rocker Freddie Mercury will "appear" on stage during a special performance of West End musical We Will Rock You through an "optical illusion", according to Queen star Brian May.

The show is nearing its 10th anniversary and bosses have been plotting ways to make the production memorable for fans - and they want Mercury, who died in 1991, to be part of the celebration.

May admits he was annoyed that a holographic projection of late rapper Tupac Shakur was used during Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg's set at last month's Coachella festival - as the tribute they're planning will be a similar "optical illusion of sorts".
May tells the BBC: "People will come out saying, 'Did we actually see Freddie?'

"It's a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we've been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while. (That technique) is something we've looked at ourselves, but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week, it's not really quite practical."

The special performance will take place on Monday at London's Dominion Theatre - and Robert De Niro, one of the show's producers, will also be making an appearance.

May adds: "There is a certain person who's coming that's intimately associated with getting the production on in the first place - our friend Bob from Los Angeles. We call him Bob so we don't get too overcome with his stardom."

May tells the BBC: "People will come out saying, 'Did we actually see Freddie?' Errr, no he died in 1991, ... I never got any of the post 70s Queen stuff, it wasn't up to the early standard. Loved the early stuff..

I know what you're saying, there was no greater Queen fan than me in the mid 70's ( I was one of the lucky few in the audience for the 'We Are The Champions' video, for instance; but I think they peaked with 'News Of The World' though, and I remember being shocked by the sheer awfulness of 'Jazz'. Sure they've had their moments since, but we won't even mention 'Hot Space'!

What a great pity this mans lifestyle and sexuality ended such a brilliant life so early and deprived the public of years of magical and fantastic music. He was - (is stil)l very good.

The only one that came back from the dead is Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world, he is the last and eternal Judge and will judge all Sinners
Freddie Mercury is now a fretting Ghost waiting for Jesus to decide his FATE.
So please AOL be realistic and get awarness of the word of God, God do not lie or compromise

If you're a religious being....a believer in God......you'll know that "ghosts" are a deception, you should know that Farrokh Bulsara is no "fretting ghost". Should Christ "judge" anyone He will judge ALL men. You need to understand the word of God if you choose to believe in it, be realistic upet44, be aware of the word of your God, demonstrably you're not.

I don't think they are doing this for money, they have more than they could spend in their lifetimes. Queen fans are ferociously loyal and will love it, if you don't like Queen then thats cool too, you don't have to buy the records or see the shows. Personally I have a lot of time for Queen, not a huge fan, I have the greatest hits and thats about it but they made some great records and brought some glamour and showmanship to a genre of music that is usually full of testosterone and machismo! Freddie was a real eccentric, the like of which is not seen anymore due to the music industry being so marketed and pre-packaged. As for flogging a dead horse or being too old, Brian and Roger have done this all their lives, its their living, their passion and all they have ever done. They live for performing so what are they going to do if they retire; play golf? Go fishing? Potter round the garden? Don't think so. As long as peolpe are willing to pay to see them perform and feel they are getting entertained and the fans enjoy it and the band enjoys it what's the problem?

As soon as the Tupac hologram thing happened, our minds were instantly taken towards other enigmatic stage performers to which this phenomenom will take on...be it Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Elvis, Jim Morrison, Lennon etc...wave bye-bye to tribute bands!

watched the latest 'QUEEN' group on American Idol and they were brilliant. The piano player stood up and sang and sounded like yes 'FREDDIE' towards the end of their performance, on came Brian and the drummer and wow they were great and it bought tears to my eyes. Good news about 'FREDDIE' being shown do not think he will ever leave his followers or his followers forget him

Freddie would love this and would be well proud that the we will rock you show has been going for ten years, being a Queen fan and having seen them six times with Freddie you know you had been watching something special,Even with Paul Rodgers doing the tour with them Freddie was on screen during some songs and you felt he was still part of the show,Keep rocking guys and long live the Queen.

The remaining members of Queen need to move on and let him rest in peace. In the early days after his death, I felt they were honouring him but now, this just feels like exploitation. Leave him be!

Your entitled to your opinion but the whole Freddie ethos would say otherwise. Freddie was a great performer, a showman, he'd love it.

Although I think I'd find it a bit strange to witness, I totally agree with your sentiments about Freddie.
