Blue Knights Pull Out Of Takeover Bid For Rangers Football Club

Rangers have rejected the Blue Knights' bid to save the Scottish Premier League club from liquidation.

After negotiating with the Gers' administrators Duff and Phelps, Brian Kennedy has been informed the joint £8.5m bid - made with Paul Murray - will not be accepted.

The Blue Knights are expected to hold a press conference on Friday in response to their offer collapsing.

Duff and Phelps claim there are two other bids on the table, one from the UK and one from overseas.

The administrators said: "We have continued discussions with the parties remaining in the bidding process and good progress has been made," read a statement from Duff and Phelps.

"We can also confirm that Craig Whyte has confirmed that he will transfer his shareholding in Rangers Football Club to two of the parties and has indicated he would not be an impediment to a sale of the club.

"We will issue a further update for supporters tomorrow and can say that every effort is being made to conclude the sale of the club as quickly as possible."

Singaporean businessman Bill Ng, who previously led an offer to buy the Blues before pulling out, is not believed to have re-entered the bidding

Kennedy, owner of Sale Sharks Rugby Club, had previously had two individual bids for the club rejected by the administrators.

This latest setback for the club comes after American businessman Bill Miller had a bid rejected last week.

Owner Craig Whyte meanwhile has agreed to transfer his majority shareholding.

Whyte's per cent stake in Rangers is required for the club to exit administration via a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

He bought the Teddy Bears from Sir David Murray for £1 in May 2011.

Are Duff and Flops making Rangers jump through hoops with Green and Whyte?

For neutrals (is there really such a thing in the world of fitba?) it does make us chuckle just a wee bit. :-)

We have gone from Whyte to Miller light on to the withdrawal by the Blue Knights. Are Rangers now going to go Green? Will that make their fans see red?Perhaps a well known mobile phone network should make a bid. After all, isn't the world Orange?

".... American businessman Bill Miller had a bid rejected last week."

The way I read it, it was Mr Miller who did the rejecting. Something is rotten in the state of Ibrox and it starts to look like the 3rd division might be hosting whatever rises from the ashes, unless the other SPL clubs decide cash is more important than integrity of any sort.

Clearly D&P are showing interested buyers phony figures, or at least leaving out some very important contractual information. From what I gathered, the Tickitus deal not being delt with and the fact that player salaries go back to normal as of 1-June, and its likely that there are no relegation clauses for anyone who wants to stay, as major obsticles.

I have to confess I'm more than a wee bit tired of hearing Rangers, Rangers, Rangers... their season is over and next season may or may not happen for them in whatever disguise they reappear.

Meanwhile, in tomorrow's big match around a thousand people will converge on Main St. Coatbridge to see the second leg of the Division 2 & 3 playoff semifinal where visiting Elgin City carry a one goal advantage from the first leg. The true heart of Scottish football will continue to beat, Rangers or no Rangers.
