Eurovision Song Contest 2012: Semi-final One - BBC3, 8pm

Ever since Engelbert Humperdinck announced he was representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest we've been waiting for the competition to heat up. Tonight it's the first semi-final and Scott Mills and Sara Cox will present coverage of the musical extravaganza from the Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Humperdinck's not the only character to look out for, following their eighth-place finish last year, pop twins Jedward are once again representing Ireland.

Other 'stars' hoping to secure one of the 10 spots available in Saturday's final include hotly tipped acts Russian grannies Buranovskiye Babushki, Danish busker Soluna Samay and Icelandic duo Greta Salome & Jonsi.

Harlots, Housewives & Heroines: A 17th Century History for Girls - BBC4, 9pm

Historian Dr Lucy Worsley examines why the years after the Restoration were relatively good times for women. Beginning by profiling Charles II's mistresses, she reveals the ways women were actually in control of their own destinies. It seems they had opportunities to become wealthy, famous and influential once the throne was occupied by Charles II, who brought over lots of modern ideas from the Continent.
