Is Suri Cruise Going To Be Brought Up Catholic By Katie Holmes?

PA

Katie Holmes has turned her back on ex Tom Cruise's controversial belief, Scientology, by registering with a Catholic church in New York, it has been claimed.

According to a report in the Huffington Post, the actress has re embraced her childhood Catholic faith and become a parishioner at the Church of St Francis Xavier near her Manhattan apartment.

One member of the church choir told the Huffington Post: "Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us.

'She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms."

Katie's parents are devout Catholics.

Now the big question is will Katie and Tom's six-year-old daughter Suri be brought up as a Catholic rather than follow her father's eccentric Scientology beliefs? She had been attending a Scientology school.

But the claims have been questioned by the Christian Post, who was told by a church official that Katie was not listed on the church's registry.

But the plot thickens, and the article continues: "Although St Francis Xavier Church has denied having Katie Holmes as a new member, it is not uncommon for churches to attempt to maintain a certain level of privacy for particularly high-profile parishioners. If Holmes has chosen St Francis Xavier Church as her place of worship during her time in NYC, time will surely tell ... or at least one of her fellow parishioners might."

Katie, 33, reportedly surprised her husband of five years with a petition for divorce two weeks ago. Cruise, a devout member of the Church of Scientology, was caught off guard by Holmes' petition and demands, which reportedly include sole custody of their six-year-old daughter Suri.

The couple have come to an agreement in record time, which reportedly included Holmes' request that Suri be kept from the teachings of Scientology.

But TMZ reports that the stipulations actually require both parents to avoid discussing certain religious topics with their daughter until she is of a certain age.

People magazine published statement from Holmes' attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, who revealed: "The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life."

We wonder whether this new chapter will include a new church and religious teachings for Suri.
