Parents will spend a massive £77 per child on Back to School basics, including uniforms,shoes and equipment, according to a new survey by LV=.

This costs rises to £81 per child for secondary school, but drops to £67 for junior school and £63 for the infant years.

The total cost of our Back to School spending has increased by £27 million over the last 12 months, reaching a whopping £736 million this year.

Over half of us also feel under more pressure this year to spend on equipment and school items, despite not having the cash.

The typical cost of school essentials for this year, per child is:

School uniform £50

Stationery £10

Sports kit £40

Haircut for the new year £10

School bag £15
